The goals of The Parent Project's Changing Destructive Adolescent Behavior are:

  1. Reduce family conflict including arguing and violence

  2. Increase family bonding

  3. Improve school attendance and performance

  4. Reduce/prevent alcohol and other drug use

  5. Reduce teen sexual acting out

  6. Terminate poor peer associations (up to and including frank gang involvement)

  7. Achieve appropriate parental response to teen runaway behavior

  8. Achieve appropriate parental response to teen suicidal threats/attempts

  9. Increase sense of parental efficacy (locus of control)

  10. Improve family structure to be consistent with age-appropriate, developmental needs of children/adolescents, including age and developmentally appropriate rewards/consequences

Target Population:

Parents of what are collectively referred to as "strong-willed," or out-of-control adolescents and older children (11-17 years old), including children diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and most children diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. The program has also been used with adult children still living in the home.

Additional Information

There is a $27.00 cost for the Parent Project® Workbook, payable on the first night of the class.

***12-week Program. Class held every Tuesday. Closed session after the second week***
